Attributing his success to his passion for what he does and dedication to his profession, Timothy A. White has served as the president at Texas Healthy Homes, through which he and his team build environmentally-friendly homes and offer consulting an educational services on sustainable building systems and materials, since 2019. Utilizing a building system that “is better for you, your wallet, your family and our environment,” he is proud of his quest as a natural builder, understanding materials and the importance of cost-competition in the marketplace. His most recent project was a 2400-square-foot house that used hempcrete, made from the woody core of hemp, for the exterior and interior walls and avoided using drywall; added his company’s signature three-coat lime plaster system; and removed all the concrete, reinforced concrete, and steel. For work such as this, he and the company were recognized by the United States Hemp Building Associations for constructing the Hemp Home of the Year for 2022-2023.
Early in his career, Mr. White served for four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he rose from non-commissioned officer to the rank of corporal and trained as a lead climber and scout skier for mountain warfare. Afterward, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology and biology from Luther College and subsequently excelled as the independent business owner at Mountain Stream Builders, LLC from 1997 to 2006. It was here that he developed systems that used sustainable products for mainstream construction, which he continued to do as part of the research and development department for education programs at American Clay Enterprises, LLC—where he came up with a protein-based binder product, a coat clay based product, and multi-day training programs for the installation of ACE products. In 2007, he expanded his expertise and skillset by completing traditional lime mason training with the US Heritage Group. Prior to his current position, he was active as an independent business owner at Safe Healthy Homes, whose mission was to build homes using products that are safe for the environment, from 2017 to 2020.
Dedicated to creating healthy, highly energy-efficient living spaces that provide a better alternative to the conventional stick frame systems predominantly used in construction, Mr. White’s future plan is to use recycled glass as sand in his building materials. In addition, he wants to continue sharing his extensive knowledge and expertise with other building professionals to increase their knowledge base around using natural building systems in the marketplace.
